Amazon’s Vegan Cooking Show Nabs 8 Prestigious Award Nominations

Vegan cooking show New Day New Chef has been nominated for eight Taste Awards. Known as the “Oscars of food, fashion, and lifestyle media,” the Taste Awards are the highest awards for creators, producers, hosts, and directors of lifestyle programs, series, shows, and cinema. New Day New Chef and its Support + Feed edition have been nominated for Best Reality Series; Best Green or Organic Program, Series or Film; Best New Series; Best Health & Fitness Program, Film or Documentary; Best Filmed at Home Episodes or Film; and Best Series Pilot. The latter two categories are viewer’s choice awards and voting is open until March 12.

“We are delighted to be nominated. It’s our mission at New Day New Chef to bring vegan cooking to a mainstream audience, so to be nominated in the same category as well-established traditional food programs is a great honor, and it means we are on the right track,” Eamonn McCrystal, New Day New Chef producer, told VegNews. “All this as we are about to embark on the filming of our new season gives us a great boost after a difficult 2020.”

Vegan cooking show debut

Hosted by vegan author and journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell, New Day New Chef debuted on Amazon Prime in the United States and United Kingdom last year before expanding to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. The show features celebrity co-hosts, well-known vegan chefs, and a panel of taste-testers to rate the dishes made on the show. New Day New Chef also launched a special “Support + Feed” season that focuses on the work of vegan nonprofit initiative Support + Feed, created by Maggie Baird (Billie Eilish’s mother) to support local vegan restaurants in Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia while supplying food to children’s charities, homeless and domestic shelters, and family and senior centers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
